[ What if... ]
Yesterday while going out on a dinner, dad brought up the topic of my grand-dad's biz when we passed by Joo Seng Market. Apparently when I was still a small kid, my ah gong runs a 'franchise' stalls of provision shops (aka giam3 cai4 tua1) in markets. There's one in Kim Keat (my grandma's), one in Joo Seng (another grandma's) and another two by my uncles. I remembered going to my grandma's stall in Kim Keat and I would wander around the stall and the neighbouring stalls. (For those who went shopping with me before, will know that I had the habit of wandering about alone. I just realised it's a habit since young.) The pork stall uncle, biscuits stall aunty... Can't remember liao. I think I must be a spoilt brat then, coz I was somehow the youngest gal then. Giam Cai Tua empire ended with all the seniors aging.
So before my Ah gong and his Giam Cai Tua Empire, he actually had a Dao3 You3 Long4 (aka Soya Bean Sauce Factory). See, he was rather a successful businessman from China then. Owning an antique Volks Beetle(!) at that time is a big deal. Also owning 3 wives and severals tens of sons and daughters. My dad probably is a Ah3 Sia3 Gia4 (aka rich man's son) then. However one day, Dao You Long was gone by an arson act.
So here goes the end of it and so you cant see any Quek Tao You on NTUC shelves now. Neither any Quek minimarket in Sengkang.
But what if... there's no arson act on the Dao You Long? My bro and my imaginations went wild.
Either
1) Study very well in prestegious university and turn the Dao You Long into Kikkoman No. 2. Appear in TIME ASIA, perhaps.
Or
2) Be those rich man's daughter/son and be any post in the company. Sit there, got a very nice name, super nice office but didnt do work. Yet get paycheck every month. Buy a degree oversea and be a chiongster every night in BMW Z4, Ferarri, Lamborghini, SLK. I wanna be a regional manager, so that I can travel to many countries but not working, of course. Then with so many aunties and uncles and cousins fighting for the power and money. We'll set them up. Chase them away, buy their shares over. Lastly, he will throw me off the chair and took over it. Very HK drama.
But then again, if the Dao You Long really succeed, I think we are at the most supervisor of the Dao You bottle caps or the toiletries manager. Coz my ah gong had too many sons and daughters.
